About Robert Wihtol

Robert Wihtol is an adjunct professor at the Asian Institute of Management, where he lectures on international financial institutions. He worked for the Asian Development Bank for 20 years, including as Country Director in the People’s Republic of China, Director General for the Pacific, and Director General for East Asia. A Finnish national, Robert has an MA from the University of Helsinki and a DPhil from Oxford.

July 2014 marked the seventieth anniversary of the Bretton Woods conference, which laid the foundation for the post-WWII international financial system. The conference established the IMF to stabilize the world economy and the World Bank to finance post-war reconstruction. Both have evolved into pillars of present-day global finance.
